The Body

I always seem to get a tad morose at this time of year and ..... this year was no exception. I took the Christmas tree down yesterday, which made me a bit sad. I'm not sure quite why though. Christmas has seen me mostly in my PJs, watching copious episodes of The Chase on Challenge - I LOVE Bradley Walsh 😍 - with a bottle of Buttercup Syrup and a couple of paracetamol to hand. Yes, I've had ..... a cold. Sounds trivial but it's been a bad 'un and it knocked me off my feet a bit . I've not have Covid; everybody's got that and I fancied a more niche illness!

Today saw me return to the gym to start on a challenging, demanding and, quite frankly, terrifying journey. My PT is a competitive bodybuilder. He's fab. I've been training with him for a few years now, during which time I've shed 40kg (over six stones for those still working in old money) and stopped having to get someone else to tie my shoelaces. OK, it wasn't that bad but let's just say I'm a whole lot happier with the new me. Anyway, I said to my trainer one day, a fair while ago: "I'd quite like to be a bodybuilder and do a competition". I'm pretty sure I whispered it inaudibly but ..... clearly not. "Great", says he; "let's do that". WTF have I done? After putting it off due to everything and nothing, I ran out of excuses. Later this year, at the age of 55, I will do my first competition. The hard work started today. I did a light training session and we talked about the show dates and the diet. So we're looking at August and September for the shows and a 10kg weight loss over the next 20 weeks for starters.

And that is The Body part of the blog title. This is going to be feature a lot in my posts. I'm a menopausal woman, trying to get into good enough shape to stand in front of strangers in an unforgiving sparkly bikini. I am, to put it bluntly, shi**ing myself 😊

Right, time for fish, rice and vegetables.
